minahmacchiato is a home cafe on instagram that started off as experimenting new drinks inspired by the intricate café menus at Seoul, Korea. Picking up this newfound hobby during the quarantine, she encourages her viewers to have fun with colourful ingredients in their drinks. Her home café style videos are bubbly and stress relieving, ranging from iced lattes, refreshing teas, and fruity mixtures.

How did you get started on creating your home cafe on instagram?

I’ve always followed Korean homecafe accounts on Instagram and YouTube, which have been a source of stress relief during my hectic university days. But what made it into a reality was when I got back from Seoul and quarantine had started shortly a few weeks later. Just like everyone else with much time on my hands, I ended up making my own home cafe account named minahmacchiato! Most of the inspiration I got was from my trip to Seoul, the cafes were amazing and recreating some drinks I had there became my goal.

How did you get started on creating homecafe style videos on instagram?

I’ve always followed Korean homecafe accounts on Instagram and YouTube, which have been a source of stress relief during my hectic university days. But what made it into a reality was when I got back from Seoul and quarantine had started shortly a few weeks later. Just like everyone else with much time on my hands, I ended up making my own home cafe account named minahmacchiato! Most of the inspiration I got was from my trip to Seoul, the cafes were amazing and recreating some drinks I had there became my goal.

Any tips to share with your viewers on filming aesthetic drink recipes?

Personally, to me, good lighting and backdrop/deco is all you need. It’s a shock to some people that I use my IPhone XR to record and edit the whole video cause I do not have the energy and time to use a laptop for it but I admire others who do!

    Matcha can be intimidating to some cause with the wrong ratio of ingredients it might be too bitter or too sweet. Some may have their own preference on how they like their matcha, so I definitely advise to do a trial and error till you get the right taste of it!

    I saw one of the homecafes I followed made matcha with chocolate and I guess why not make our nation’s favourite chocolate drink Milo with matcha. Honestly, I think it’s my new favourite drink!

    AJISAI / Matcha is known to have a soybean note to it, together with its pistachio nuttiness that pairs so well with a chocolate based drink. 100% recommended!

    RECIPE

    Matcha Milo

    Prep time : 15 mins 

    Ingredients

    3 tsp AJISAI / Matcha powder
    2 tsp icing sugar
    50ml cold water
    50ml Milk (any choice of dairy/plant-base protein)
    1 packet of milo
    60ml hot water
    Ice cubes
    Whipped Cream
    Chocolate syrup



    Method To Assemble

    1. First, make your AJISAI / Matcha mixture by adding some cold water and your choice of sweetener to it.
    2. Mix using ASAGAO / Chasen whisk till it gets frothy.
    3. Start making your Milo just by mixing one packet of it with 60ml of hot water. The key to this drink is to fill your cup with ice, the hot milo then will melt some of the ice.
    4. You can add some milk to it, and proceed to add your matcha mixture! (Personally, I like to make my own whipped cream rather than using the store bought, it makes a whole difference!)
    5. Drizzle some chocolate syrup and some matcha powder on it.
